Super Creative With Plastic Bottles, How I Grow Vegetables Without Spending Money

March 13, 2024

Growing vegetables with recycled plastic bottles is a resourceful and budget-friendly approach to gardening. Here’s a creative guide on how to grow vegetables without spending much money using plastic bottles:

Materials Needed:

  • Plastic bottles (various sizes)
  • Sharp knife or scissors
  • Seeds or seedlings
  • Potting soil or a homemade compost mix
  • Water

Procedure:

Prepare the Plastic Bottles:

Collect plastic bottles of different sizes. Cut them horizontally, separating the top and bottom parts. The bottom part will be used as a mini-planter, and the top part can be used as a watering reservoir.

Create Drainage Holes:

Poke or cut small drainage holes in the bottom of each plastic bottle to ensure water doesn’t pool at the bottom, preventing root rot.

Fill with Soil:

Fill the bottom part of each bottle with potting soil or a homemade compost mix. Leave some space at the top to accommodate the plant and water.

Planting Seeds or Seedlings:

Plant your vegetable seeds or place seedlings into the soil. Follow the recommended planting depth and spacing for the specific vegetable you are growing.

Watering Reservoir:

Use the top part of the bottle as a watering reservoir. Fill it with water, then invert it and insert it into the soil of the bottle. This creates a self-watering system where the soil draws water as needed.
